Yondu Udonta was a leader of an exiled faction of the Ravagers and adoptive father to Peter Quill. When Quill betrayed the Ravagers and stole the Orb for himself, Udonta led the hunt for his former ally. Eventually, Udonta caught up with Quill, but he was convinced to help him in the battle against Ronan the Accuser, who was threatening to use the Power Stone to destroy all of Xandar, with Quill ensuring Udonta did not get the Infinity Stone at the end. Despite losing the stone, Udonta chose not to get revenge against Quill, leading to mistrust among all of his own clan.
However, in the aftermath of the battle of Xandar, most of Udonta's clan began to turn against their former captain and put their trust instead in Taserface. With the help of Rocket Raccoon and Groot, Udonta got his revenge against the mutineers and destroyed his own ship. Udonta went to help the Guardians of the Galaxy in the battle against Egros. As the planet collapsed into itself, Yondu sacrificed his own spacesuit, saving Quill and allowing himself to suffocate in deep space. He was given a funeral by the Guardians and the Ravagers, honoring him for his heroism and saving the lives that were nearly taken by Egros.
In the wake of his sacrifice, Yondu was mysteriously brought back to life by the Grandmaster, who carried a serious obsession over his skills and sought to make him one of his official champions. Even before or during the rebellion against the Grandmaster, Yondu enjoyed the comfortable residence, but had chosen to aid the Warbound in their fight against the Grandmaster since he didn't like being a prisoner. He was aboard the Statesman where he oversaw the evacuation of the Asgardian people and the destruction of Asgard.
While on the way to Earth, the Statesman was under attack by Thanos, in which Yondu was safely transported to Earth by Heimdall, who used the last of his magic to buy enough time for them to be safe. After surviving the Snap, Yondu joined the Avengers that was under the leadership of Natasha Romanoff. Just as the Blip happened, which resurrected all the lives claimed by the Snap, Yondu was on Knowhere where he rallied with many allies to aid the Avengers during the battle of Earth and reunited with Peter.
A year after the Blip, Yondu had been visiting Contraxia while his old team were celebrating christmas at Knowhere. He later returned to Knowhere to meet with his son Peter, who gave him a Christmas present. During the Attack on Arête Laboratories, Yondu took part in the final battle and would go on to become the Sheriff of Knowhere.
